This paper focuses on theoretical, emprical and clinical accounts of self-destructive processes in the general population, with a particular focus on suicidal individuals. The case studies in the article demonstrate how the various self-destructive processes lead to suicidal behaviour. It is suggested that suicidal behaviour does not only evolve from external pressure, rather, self-destructive processes may produce unbearable mental pain, that culminates in suicidal behaviour. Article published in the Israel Jounral of Psychiatry, 2007.
